Photodetachment Studies of negative Ions

Dag Hanstorp, Department of Physics, University of Gothenburg

I will review various laboratory experiments of negative ions. The photodetachment process has been investigated at the negative ion beam facility GUNILLA in Sweden, using infra-red, visible and UV lasers. This has yielded information about bound as well as continuum structures of negative ions. Femtosecond spectroscopy has been performed using a velocity map imaging spectrometer, and the first data from an angular resolved collinear electron spectrometer will be reported. Further, the first experiment using the newly commissioned cryogenic electrostatic double storage ring DESIREE, in which the life time of an excited state in S- has been measured, will be presented.
